DOUGLAS ALAN SPENCER
August 11, 1945 ~ June 2, 2010
"Doug was a loving, non-judgmental, forgiving man.
He leaves the world a better place because he stayed awhile
on his journey to his heavenly home."


Douglas Alan Spencer, age 64 of Vancouver, WA, passed away at home on June 2, 2010 of multiple myeloma. He was born August 11, 1945 in Van Nuys, CA to Clyde and Beatrice Spencer. Doug was a caring big brother to his siblings: brother, Steve; and sisters, Terri, Marty, and Lori. He grew up in Port Angeles, Yakima and Tacoma and graduated from Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma in 1963.
Doug joined the Army and served three years as a helicopter mechanic at Ft. Benning, GA, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
He graduated Cum Laude from City University, Bellevue, WA in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Doug was married in 1966 to Ethel "Sam" Andersen who died of cancer in 2006. They had two children: Stuart and Michelle. Stuart lives in Vancouver with his wife, Stephanie and their children, Mason and Paige. Michelle lives and works in England with her husband Matt.
Doug spent most of his working life in the aerospace industry as a buyer/purchasing agent and as a contract administrator.
He was an active, outdoor man who liked fishing, hunting, camping and hiking. He volunteered as a scout leader and soccer coach, and served his church, Calvary Lutheran in Federal Way. Since moving to Vancouver in 2005 he has actively supported Friends of the Carpenter and his church, Beautiful Savior Lutheran.
Besides his loving family and many dear friends, Douglas leaves his devoted helpmate, Janet Voldal. They joined their lives in a ceremony of Blessing and Commitment in Sept. 2007.
A memorial service will be held on June 9 at 2 :00 p.m. at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 12513 SE Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church outdoor beautification fund. A final service will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Federal Way, WA with private interment at Oakwood Hill in Tacoma, WA.
