CAROLYN WELLS OBITUARY

Carolyn L. Wells passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at the age of 76. Born in Tacoma, WA on June 14, 1945, she was a lifelong Washingtonian. Raised in Puyallup, WA she graduated from Franklin Pierce High School in 1963. She moved to Ellensburg, WA to attend Central Washington State College. Where she earned multiple college degrees. Including Bachelor's Degrees in both Physical Education and Health. Later earning a second degree in English, a Master's degree in Educational Administration. As a lifelong learner, her educational pursuits included statistical analysis course work at Washington State University, as well as a minor in data processing and management from CWU.
Before returning to Central in 1977, she taught Physical Education at A.C. Davis High School in Yakima. She was also a part-time telephone operator with the Ellensburg Telephone Company. During her early years at CWU, she worked as a project leader for implementation of the Student Information Systems, Statistician for the Office of Admissions and Records and the Office of Institutional Research. During that era, the information and computing systems center held only two computers because they were just that big and complicated in what was the beginning of a new computing age. Her career path progression lead to numerous advances, in 1987, in the 96-year history of Central. From its beginnings as a Normal School to its present status as a state university. She became the first woman appointed Registrar of Admissions. And was considered a pioneer in the field of computing and student information systems.
Carolyn enjoyed many pastimes in her youth and through retirement: Field hockey, basketball, golfing, bowling, clam digging, sewing, reading, baking, ceramics as well as participating in local area civic groups, Moose, Eagles and VFW. She was an avid supporter of youth athletics in the Kittitas Valley.
She is survived by her partner Gary Schormann, three children Eric Wells (Layton, UT), Morgan Wells (Hood River, OR) and daughter Gretchen Henry (Rock Hill, South Carolina). Sister, Marilyn Johansen, brother, Don Godfrey and three grandchildren Austin Wells, Chase Henry, Peyton Wells and step granddaughter Eden Collins. She was preceded in death by Ronald Godfrey (brother), and parents Walter and Dorothy Godfrey.

I've known Carolyn for many years our parents were camping budies when we were in kindergarden at Collins Grade School. We camped in a lot of places like along rivers, lakes but mostly at the beach during clam season or by fairs as Carolyn's relitives owned game and canivel type place and sold stuffed animals. Ron, Carolyn, and maybe Don work there.
Carolyn was smart well liked and very active. She was strong and when she was younger didn't mind showing it. But as she grew she became more of a lady and less tomboy and we grew apart in high school or maybe jr high. A gret person wonderfull family. Sorry Don.

Like Laval I knew Carolyn all the way from Collins through high school. During high school we belonged to a number of the same clubs and attended some of the same social gatherings.  I am sorry to hear of her death.
